Jicama Suggestions
1. Replace turnips with jicama for a new
take on any old-fashioned ster. Add peeled cubes of jicama to the stew
15 to 20 minutes before it is to be served.
2. Add thick Jicama sticks to any crudites basket.
3. Add jicama to a Pinzimonio or to a platter of vegetable for Bagna
Cauda.
4. Peel and shred raw jicama and add it to an equal amount of shredded
raw potatoes for interesting change of pace Potato Pancakes. Serve them
very crisp and hot, with a peppery tomato sauce instead of applesauce
or sour cream.
5. Peel jicama, cut it into 1/4 inch dice, and steam or parboil 3
minutes, then drain it and add to Russian Salad.
6. Add 1/3 cup diced raw jicama to potato or shrimp salad for added
crunch.
7. Add 1/2 cup peeled, shredded jicama to any coleslaw recipe.
8. Substitute sticks of peeled jicama for eggplant in French-fried
Eggplant.
9. Substitute jicama in any recipe that calls for potato. It contains
more water tham potato and will cook down a bit more, but the final
texture will be much the same and the flavor is delicate and with a
hint of sweetness.
