Easy Gratin Potatoes



Serves 2-6

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes

  • 311 oz (75 ml) milk

  • 311 oz (75 ml) double cream

  • 1 clove garlic

  • 1 tbs clarified butter salt, pinch nutmeg

  1. Peel the potatoes and slice very finely on a mandoline.

  2. Soak in cold water.

  3. Boil together the milk and cream, season with salt and nutmeg.

  4. Rub a 6 x 12 in (15 x 30.5 cm) roasting pan with garlic and brush with clarified butter.

  5. Drain the potatoes and dry thoroughly on absorbent kitchen paper.

  6. Spread the potatoes in thin, closely packed layers adding a little creamy liquid between each layer.

  7. The mixture should be no more than 3/1 in (2 cm) thick.

  8. Pour the rest of the liquid on top and bake at 350F/180C/gas mark 4 for 30-45 minutes or until nicely browned on top.
